How & why

Popeck, born Judka Herpstu, is a French comedian and actor famous for his stage persona — a grumbling little clothing peddler with a Yiddish accent, three-piece suit and bowler hat, and the catchphrase 'On n'est pas là pour rigoler !'. The son of Jewish immigrants from Poland and Romania, he was among the children hidden and saved during the Holocaust by the OSE, while his mother was murdered at Auschwitz; his Jewish background is central to his art.
