Nikolai Petrov was a Russian classical pianist celebrated for his commanding technique and vast repertoire, a prize-winner at the Van Cliburn and Queen Elisabeth competitions who performed at the world's leading concert halls and held the title of People's Artist of the USSR. He was the son of the cellist Arnold Ferkelman, whose Jewish descent is noted in Jewish music references, and grandson of the operatic bass Vasily Petrov.
