Nik Cohn is a British writer and pioneering rock music journalist whose 1969 book Awopbopaloobop Alopbamboom was among the first serious histories of pop. His 1976 New York magazine article 'Tribal Rites of the New Saturday Night' inspired the film Saturday Night Fever. His father was the historian Norman Cohn, of Jewish descent, placing Nik Cohn in a Jewish family; he is a writer and critic rather than a composer.
