Naum Shor is recognized among Jewish contributors to Technology & Engineering — Co-developed the ellipsoid method for convex optimization.

How & why

Naum Zuselevich Shor was a Soviet and Ukrainian mathematician specializing in optimization who, in the mid-1970s and independently of Arkadi Nemirovski, developed the ellipsoid method for convex minimization — later famous as the basis for the first polynomial-time algorithm for linear programming. A full member of Ukraine's National Academy of Sciences, he is documented among Jewish mathematicians.
