Parish was an American lyricist inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, best known for writing the words to standards including 'Star Dust,' 'Sleigh Ride,' 'Deep Purple' and 'Stars Fell on Alabama.' Born to a Jewish family in Lithuania (then part of the Russian Empire) and raised on New York's Lower East Side, he was Jewish.
