How & why
Michel Debre was the first Prime Minister of the French Fifth Republic and a principal author of its 1958 constitution. He was of Jewish descent through his father, the pediatrician Robert Debre, who came from an Alsatian rabbinical family; his mother was Catholic and Michel Debre was himself raised and remained Catholic.
