How & why
Max Rudolf was a German-born American conductor and pedagogue who led the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (1958–1970), served the Metropolitan Opera and taught at the Curtis Institute, and whose treatise 'The Grammar of Conducting' became a foundational text for orchestral conductors. He fled Nazi Germany, emigrating to the United States in 1940.
