Marshall Sklare

Sklare, a third-generation American Jew, founded the modern sociological study of American Jewry and is known as the 'father of American Jewish sociology'. His books, including 'Conservative Judaism' (1955) and 'Jewish Identity on the Suburban Frontier' (1967), documented how Jewish community and identity adapted in an open society. He founded the Cohen Center for Modern Jewish Studies at Brandeis University.
