How & why
Mond was a chemist and industrialist who co-founded Brunner Mond, a forerunner of ICI, and discovered nickel tetracarbonyl, the basis of the Mond process for refining pure nickel. He also recovered sulphur from alkali waste and was a major patron of science and the arts. He was born into a Jewish family in Kassel.
