Leonard Slatkin is an American conductor who led the St. Louis Symphony, the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington and the Detroit Symphony, and is a leading champion of American orchestral music. Born into a musical family — his parents were the violinist Felix Slatkin and cellist Eleanor Aller — he is of Russian-Jewish descent and is Jewish.
