Leo Eitinger

Eitinger was a psychiatrist who pioneered the study of long-term psychological trauma in Holocaust survivors, helping to establish what became known as survivor syndrome and shaping the modern understanding of PTSD. A Jewish refugee from Czechoslovakia, he was himself deported to Auschwitz, survived, and became a leading professor of psychiatry in Norway and a close friend of Elie Wiesel.
