Kurt Hensel was a German mathematician who introduced the p-adic numbers, a foundational construction of modern number theory and algebra, and long edited Crelle's Journal. He descended from the Mendelssohn family, of Jewish origin, which had converted to Christianity. He was of Jewish descent.
