How & why
Josef Krips was an Austrian conductor renowned for his warm, idiomatic Mozart and for helping rebuild Vienna's musical life after World War II, later leading the London Symphony and San Francisco Symphony orchestras. Because of his Jewish paternal ancestry he was barred from working under the Nazi regime and its Anschluss of Austria. He was of Jewish descent through his father.
