Jon Stewart is an American comedian, writer and political commentator who, as longtime host of The Daily Show (1999–2015, returning in 2024), redefined satirical television news and influenced a generation of political comedy. Born Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz to a Jewish family in New Jersey, he is Jewish and has often addressed his heritage in his work. He has also directed film and championed causes such as care for 9/11 first responders.
