Janet Yellen is an American economist who became the first woman to chair the Federal Reserve (2014–2018) and the first woman to serve as U.S. Secretary of the Treasury; she has also chaired the Council of Economic Advisers, making her the only person to have held all three roles. Her research focused on unemployment and labor markets. She is Jewish, born into a Jewish family in Brooklyn.
