Jacob Mantino ben Samuel was a Sephardic Jewish physician and Renaissance translator who served as personal physician to Popes Clement VII and Paul III and taught medicine at the Sapienza in Rome. He produced influential Latin translations of Averroes's commentaries on Aristotle and of Maimonides, helping transmit Arabic and Jewish philosophy to Renaissance Europe. His family fled the 1492 expulsion of the Jews from Spain; he was Jewish.
