Jack Greenberg was an American-Jewish civil rights lawyer who led the NAACP Legal Defense Fund for 35 years.

How & why

Jack Greenberg, born to Jewish immigrant parents in New York, was a civil-rights lawyer who served on the Brown v. Board of Education legal team and argued the case before the Supreme Court alongside Thurgood Marshall. He succeeded Marshall as director-counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund (1961–1984), arguing dozens of civil-rights cases. He also helped found MALDEF and Human Rights Watch.
