How & why
Harry Warner co-founded Warner Bros. with his brothers and led it as president, backing the sound-film breakthrough of The Jazz Singer (1927) that transformed cinema. He was born Hirsz Wonsal into a Jewish family in Congress Poland; his parents emigrated to North America, and he was an outspoken early critic of Nazism.
