Harmony Korine is the son of Eve and Sol Korine and was raised Sephardic Jewish; his father was an Iranian Jewish immigrant. He wrote Kids at nineteen, and directed Gummo (1997), Julien Donkey-Boy (1999) — made under the Dogme 95 vow — and Spring Breakers (2012). His loose, transgressive method and his use of non-professional actors made him one of the most argued-over figures in American independent film.
