Gina Bachauer was a Greek concert pianist celebrated for her interpretations of the Romantic concerto repertoire, who studied with Alfred Cortot and Sergei Rachmaninoff and gave hundreds of concerts for Allied troops during World War II before an acclaimed international career. The Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition is named in her honor. Bachauer is documented as having been born into a Jewish family in Athens.
