How & why

Róheim was a pioneer of psychoanalytic anthropology, combining Freudian theory with extensive fieldwork among Aboriginal Australians and other peoples. Born into a Hungarian Jewish family in Budapest, he emigrated to the United States. He was the first anthropologist to apply psychoanalysis systematically to ethnographic data.
