Franz Schreker is recognized among Jewish contributors to Arts & Literature — Opera composer
Franz Schreker was an Austrian composer, conductor and teacher whose lushly orchestrated operas such as 'Der ferne Klang' made him one of the most performed opera composers of the early 20th century. His father, Ignaz Schrecker, was a Bohemian Jewish court photographer, giving him documented Jewish ancestry; the Nazis classed him as Jewish, banned his music and drove him from his posts, and he died shortly after in 1934. His work was later rediscovered.
