Fanny Brice was an American comedienne, singer and star of the Ziegfeld Follies whose radio character 'Baby Snooks' made her a household name; her life inspired the musical and film Funny Girl. Born Fania Borach to Hungarian- and Alsatian-Jewish immigrant parents, she was Jewish and often drew on Jewish humor in her performances. She was a defining figure of early twentieth-century American comedy.
