Erich Leinsdorf

Erich Leinsdorf, born Erich Landauer to a Jewish family in Vienna, was an Austrian-American conductor who assisted Bruno Walter and Arturo Toscanini at Salzburg before joining New York's Metropolitan Opera in 1937. He went on to lead the Boston Symphony Orchestra and was celebrated for his intellectual rigor and clarity, as well as for his writings on conducting. He recorded extensively across opera and the symphonic repertoire over a long international career.
