Emanuel Feuermann

Feuermann, an Austrian-born Jewish cellist, is widely regarded as one of the greatest cellists of the twentieth century, admired for his flawless technique and singing tone. A child prodigy, he was forced from his German conservatory post by the Nazis and emigrated to the United States, where he performed and recorded in celebrated trios with Heifetz and Rubinstein. His career was cut short when he died at only 39 after minor surgery.
