Elena Gal'pern is recognized among Jewish contributors to Science & Medicine — Chemist who theoretically predicted the structure of the C60 fullerene
Elena G. Gal'pern was a Soviet-Russian quantum chemist at the Institute of Organoelement Compounds in Moscow who, with D. A. Bochvar in 1973, carried out the calculations that theoretically predicted the stable closed-cage structure of the C60 fullerene, more than a decade before it was produced experimentally. Their prediction is now recognised as an early landmark in fullerene science. She is documented as Jewish in listings of Jewish scientists in chemistry.
