How & why
Eddie Cantor was a hugely popular American entertainer of the early 20th century, starring in vaudeville, Broadway, films, and radio, and known as 'Banjo Eyes.' He was born Isidore Itzkowitz on New York's Lower East Side to a Russian-Jewish immigrant family and was raised by his grandmother. He helped found the March of Dimes and championed many charitable causes.
