Daniel Drucker is recognized among Jewish contributors to Science & Medicine — Endocrinologist whose GLP-1 research underlies modern diabetes and obesity drugs.
The son of Holocaust survivors who met in Israel and settled in Montreal, Drucker is a Canadian endocrinologist at the University of Toronto. Over four decades he mapped the biology of the glucagon-like peptides GLP-1 and GLP-2, showing how the gut hormone GLP-1 controls blood sugar, appetite and body weight. His work is the scientific foundation of the GLP-1 medicines now transforming the treatment of type 2 diabetes and obesity; he won the 2023 Wolf Prize in Medicine and a 2025 Breakthrough Prize.
