How & why

Bricklin, an American software engineer from a Jewish family, co-invented VisiCalc, the first electronic spreadsheet, released in 1979. Conceived while he was a Harvard MBA student and built with Bob Frankston, VisiCalc turned the personal computer into an indispensable business tool and is credited as the software that made the Apple II a commercial success. He is often called 'the father of the spreadsheet.'
