Clarice Lispector is recognized among Jewish contributors to Arts & Literature — Ukrainian-born Brazilian writer regarded as one of the most important modernist authors in Portuguese.
Lispector was a Brazilian novelist and short-story writer regarded as one of the most important modernist authors in the Portuguese language, celebrated for introspective, philosophically charged works such as 'The Passion According to G.H.' and 'The Hour of the Star'. She was born to a Jewish family in Ukraine that fled anti-Jewish pogroms and emigrated to Brazil when she was an infant; her Jewish origins inform much scholarship on her work.
