Charlotte Bühler was a developmental and humanistic psychologist who pioneered the study of the whole human life course, from infancy through old age, and helped found humanistic psychology alongside Abraham Maslow and Carl Rogers. Forced to flee Vienna in 1938, she rebuilt her career in the United States. She was born Charlotte Malachowski into a Jewish family in Berlin, and her Jewish descent forced her emigration under the Nazis.
