Charles Lederer was an American screenwriter and Broadway author known for witty screwball comedies such as 'His Girl Friday' and 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes', and for co-writing and producing the musical 'Kismet', which won the 1954 Tony Award for Best Musical. Raised partly in the orbit of Hollywood through his aunt, actress Marion Davies, he was a prized collaborator and script doctor. By his own circle's account, including his friend Ben Hecht, he was of partly Jewish descent, described as 'half Jewish and half Irish'.
