Carl Laemmle

Carl Laemmle was a film pioneer who founded Universal Pictures in 1912, one of Hollywood's first great studios, and helped create the star system and the feature-length model of American cinema. In the 1930s he used affidavits to help hundreds of Jews flee Nazi Germany. He was born to a Jewish family in Laupheim, Germany, and emigrated to the United States.
