Berish Strauch was an American Jewish surgeon, born in the South Bronx to immigrant parents, celebrated as a pioneer of microsurgery. He performed one of the earliest toe-to-thumb transplants and invented the first inflatable penile prosthesis and the Strauch Clamp. As a mentor he trained a generation of leading plastic surgeons, including Alan Matarasso.
