Benjamin of Tudela was a medieval Jewish traveler who journeyed from Spain across the Mediterranean, the Byzantine world, the Levant and Mesopotamia in the 1160s–1170s. His Hebrew itinerary, the 'Sefer Masa'ot' (Book of Travels), recorded the size, leaders and conditions of Jewish communities along the route and remains a key source for medieval geography and Jewish history. He was Jewish.
