Kolnai was a moral and political philosopher best known for 'The War Against the West' (1938), an early systematic analysis of Nazi ideology, and for pioneering work on disgust and value theory. Born into a Jewish family in Budapest, he later converted to Catholicism (1926) but was persecuted as a Jew and fled the Nazis, teaching in Britain, North America and finally London. His phenomenological ethics remains influential in analytic moral philosophy.
