Amy Sherman-Palladino's father, a comedian from the Bronx, was Jewish and her mother a Southern Baptist from Mississippi; she has said she was raised as Jewish. She created Gilmore Girls (2000) and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2017), whose heroine leaves an Upper West Side Jewish marriage for the stand-up stages of the 1950s. Maisel made her the first person to win the Emmy for both directing and writing a comedy series in the same year.
