How & why

Alma Gluck (born Reba Feinsohn to a Jewish family in Romania) was one of the leading operatic sopranos of the early 20th century in the United States. Her 1915 Red Seal recording of 'Carry Me Back to Old Virginny' became one of the first records to sell more than a million copies. She sang at the Metropolitan Opera before turning largely to the concert and recital stage.
