The fiber laser
Who
Elias Snitzer (1925–2012), an American physicist generally identified as Jewish-American.
When
1961
Where
Massachusetts, USA (American Optical)
In 1961 physicist Elias Snitzer demonstrated the first fiber laser and the first fiber amplifier, technology now central to telecommunications, industrial cutting and medicine. His doped-glass fiber designs helped make long-distance optical communication practical. Snitzer, born in Lynn, Massachusetts, is generally counted among the Jewish-American physicists of the postwar era.
