Coronary stents are tiny mesh tubes that prop open blocked heart arteries and have saved millions of lives. The flexible NIR stent, introduced in 1996, was developed by the Israeli company Medinol, founded by Kobi and Judith Richter, and produced in partnership with Boston Scientific. It became one of the most widely implanted stents of its generation.
