Spider-Man is one of the most popular superheroes in the world, first appearing in Marvel's Amazing Fantasy #15 in 1962. He was co-created by writer Stan Lee, born Stanley Lieber to Romanian Jewish immigrants in New York, together with artist Steve Ditko. Lee's everyman hero, an ordinary teenager burdened by responsibility, reshaped modern comics and popular culture.
