Quantum electrodynamics (QED) is the quantum theory of how light and matter interact, and it is among the most precisely tested theories in physics. Its modern form was developed around 1948 by Richard Feynman and Julian Schwinger, who shared the 1965 Nobel Prize with Sin-Itiro Tomonaga. Feynman and Schwinger were both Jewish-American physicists.
