CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) is a mobile communications technology that Qualcomm developed into a global standard for cellular networks. Qualcomm was co-founded in 1985 by Irwin Jacobs and Andrew Viterbi, whose earlier work included the Viterbi algorithm. Both founders are Jewish; Viterbi's family had fled fascist Italy to the United States.
