Sidney Farber showed that the folic-acid antagonist aminopterin could induce remissions in childhood leukemia, launching cancer chemotherapy. Farber, an American Jewish physician, is widely regarded as a father of modern chemotherapy, and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute bears his name.
