Holography is a technique for recording and reconstructing three-dimensional images using light. It was invented in 1947–1948 by Dennis Gabor, a physicist born to a Jewish family in Budapest who fled Nazi Germany and worked in Britain. Gabor received the 1971 Nobel Prize in Physics for the invention, which is now used in security, data storage and imaging.
