DC Comics, home of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, is one of the two largest American comic-book publishers. The company was shaped in the 1930s by owners Harry Donenfeld and Jack Liebowitz, and Superman debuted in 1938 from writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster. These founding figures and creators were Jewish-American, part of a generation of Jewish immigrants' children who built the comics industry.
