David Sarnoff built RCA into a broadcasting giant and founded the NBC network in 1926, pioneering commercial radio and, later, commercial television in the United States. Born in Uzlyany in the Russian Empire, he emigrated as a child with his Jewish family. The rival CBS network was built by another Jewish executive, William S. Paley.
