Artificial intelligence emerged as a formal field at the 1956 Dartmouth workshop, which set out to make machines that reason and learn. Marvin Minsky was a co-organizer and later co-founded the MIT Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, shaping the discipline for decades. Minsky was Jewish; the field was founded collaboratively, and several of its other pioneers were not Jewish.
